DAY ONE HUNDRED EIGHTEEN — Numbers 6, Psalms 40 & 41

Nu 6

Here we find a keystone chapter to a few things. The first is the Nazirite vow. This comes in handy in understanding Sampson in the book of Judges and also (as some would say) John the Baptist.

The last six verses in this chapter should be memorized by all Christians. There are, I doubt, no words more loving or better for us to say to each other as we part or as we pray. “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

Ps 40 & 41

Psalm 40 is a classic and even turned into a song by a pop group. The heart of this psalm is trusting in the Lord for action and salvation. Psalm 41 is another call for salvation with verses 8 and 9 having Christological implications.

Questions to Ponder:

* Why would grapes be forbidden from the Nazirite diet?
