Love my WHAT!?

by

Victoria Osteen’s first book, LOVE YOUR LIFE, will release next month. “As a minister, she reaches out to an enormous community of people who look to her for guidance, strength, wisdom, and encouragement. She knows as well as anyone that operating in so many different roles can be extremely demanding, yet she has managed to find balance, living her life in the unforced rhythms of grace. If you ask her, she’ll tell you that she loves her life and she wants you to love your life, too.”

((HT: Tim Challies))

And she’s following hard after what the Bible says!

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
— Mt 10:39

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
— Mt 16:24

And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.”
— Mk 8:34-35

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
— Lk 9:23-24

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
— Lk 14:27

“Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
— Jn 12:25

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
— Gal 2:20

Can’t wait to see how she dodges or twists those! Then again, she is Joel’s wife….

[…] ear-tickler Joel Osteen, aka “Reverend Feelgood,” and his wife Victoria (whose new book Love Your Life which is in direct contradiction to Jesus’ command not to love your life) are reportedly […]

I can hear one of my elders, in defense of our church’s vision statement (Our vision is to make a difference in our world by helping people find real life in Jesus Christ.) a d our definition of worship (Life is experiencing God’s presence) by pointing to John 10:10 and asking if Jesus really said that.

Too much of our official positioning looks and feels like Osteen and I am about weary of contending herein.
